Shamans of Siquijor: The Healers

Synopsis: Over three hundred miles south of the Philippine capital of Manila lies the tropical island of Siquijor, famous for its traditional healers, sorcerers, and witches. "Shamans of Siquijor" follows three healers to learn about their practices and beliefs. With guidance from the supernatural world, healers cure illnesses using medicinal herbs, incantations, a magical prayer wheel, and other means. The documentary is an introduction to this healing culture. Is folk healing still valuable for the social and spiritual life of the community or just a dying relic of old traditions?

BACOLLYWOOD 3: VISAYAN FILM FESTIVAL SHINES THE SPOTLIGHT ON VISAYAN FILMMAKERS

The Bacollywood Film Festival has featured filmakers from the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental and highlighted the work of many other emerging and established filmmakers throughout the region providing a platform for rising talent and a venue for discourse on current trends in Independent Film Making.

Now in its third year, Produksyon Tramontina and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts will celebrate BACOLLYWOOD 3: VISAYAN FILM FESTIVAL on February 1-5, 2011 in Bacolod City, Philippines.
Due to popular demand, the festival will expand to showcase Visayan films, directors and stories with the intention of educating the audience of Visayan Culture through cinema. BACOLLYWOOD 3: VISAYAN FILM FESTIVAL will be a 5 day event screening throughout Robinson's Movie World Bacolod, Art District Stage and major college and university campuses in the area.

At the time of this release, the following directors have confirmed attendance: Gabby Fernandez and Monster Jimenez from Manila; Remton.Zuasola from Cebu; Julius De La Pena, Cindy Ballesteros, Peque Gallaga, Lily Alejandrino from Bacolod City.

BACOLLYWOOD 3: VISAYAN FILM FESTIVAL is made possible through a partnership of University of St. La Salle, La Consolacion College, University of Negros Occidental Recoletos, Colegio de San Agustin and Robinson's Movie World Bacolod.

Visayan Screenings of John Sayles' AMIGO

BACOLLYWOOD 3: VISAYAN FILM FESTIVAL is very excited about the upcoming screenings of John Sayles' AMIGO, an independent film about the Philippine-American war. AMIGO was shot in the Visayas (Maribojoc, Bohol) featuring some Visayan cast and crew including Bacolod City's very own Joel Torre and members of Bohol's Punta Cruz Cultural Collective, to name a few.
